Research at the Institute
Translating Tissue Science into Patient Care
Research in pathology has traditionally focused on human malignancies. While we honor this tradition, our institute is built on a broad thematic and methodological foundation that allows us to explore medical questions far beyond traditional boundaries.
Our Dual Research Philosophy
We approach scientific advancement through two complementary pillars:
1. Scientific Support & Expertise
We act as a high-level partner for the scientific community, providing the necessary infrastructure for tissue-based analysis. Our services cover the entire diagnostic pipeline:
- Material Procurement: Providing high-quality, ethically sourced materials.
- Quality Control: Ensuring tissue integrity for reliable scientific results.
- Histological workflow: From sample processing and sectioning to various staining and detection techniques and digital image analysis.
2. Experimental Work
As clinically oriented pathologists and researchers our experimental work and research questions reflects our patient-centered and translational approach.
- Material procurement: Conventional cell culture and state-of-the-art tissue-based cultures (tissue slice cultures)
- Molecularbiology: Deciphering molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis, therapy resistance and identification of new therapeutic targets.
Core Research Areas
Our primary research focuses on malignancies of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, the hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) system and urological neoplasms.
